Sign Language People is proud to be a member of organizations that exist to better the field of interpreting. We gladly provide sponsorship for interpreter education workshops, interpreter training programs, and any cause that will better the quality of life and services to the individuals we work with.

 

RID: Adding Value to the Profession and for the Consumer through EDUCATION, STANDARDS, RELATIONSHIPS, and RESOURCES.

 

RID is a national membership organization representing the professionals who make communication possible between people who are deaf or hard of hearing and people who can hear. RID’s function is to support our membership by providing the foundation needed to launch and sustain careers while ensuring quality service to the Deaf community.

 

 

SCRID
Southern California RID Chapter

 

Southern California Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (SCRID) is a chapter of the national Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) and was organized in 1967 then incorporated with a non-profit status in 1971. This chapter of professionals who provide sign language interpretation for Deaf/deaf, hard of hearing and hearing people is comprised of both deaf and hearing interpreters. They can be certified by the national RID, California Coalition of Agencies Serving the Deaf, the National Association of the Deaf, and/or other local entities.

 

NorCRID
Northern California RID Chapter

 

NorCRID is a non-profit organization committed to professional development, networking and fundraising efforts for professional interpreters, students of interpreting, and supporters of the interpreting community. NorCRID serves to make the emerging profession of interpreting more viable to its consumers and practitioners. NorCRID is a Region V Affiliate Chapter of the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc. (RID).

 

NAD
National Association of the Deaf

 

The National Association of the Deaf (NAD) was established in 1880 by deaf leaders who believed in the right of the American deaf community to use sign language, to congregate on issues important to them, and to have its interests represented at the national level. These beliefs remain true to this day, with American Sign Language as a core value.

 

As a nonprofit federation, the mission of the NAD is to preserve, protect, and promote the civil, human, and linguistic rights of deaf Americans. The advocacy scope of the NAD is broad, covering the breadth of a lifetime and impacting future generations in the areas of early intervention, education, employment, health care, technology, telecommunications, youth leadership, and more.


SaVRID
Sacramento Valley RID Chapter

 

SaVRID is a Region V Affiliate Chapter of the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc. (RID).

 

Purpose: Exchange ideas, opinions, and experiences concerning interpreting Further the development of effective communication skills in interpreting and transliterating Strive for the attainment of the highest standards in these communicative skills Act as a body to advance professional and ethical standards for interpreters Advocate for professional recognition and treatment of interpreters Support the rights of Deaf and hearing people.
